I have recently completed an overland trip from Cornwall to Cape Town in a 1992 Land Rover Defender with two friends. 9 months, 20,000 miles, 30 countries; and none of us were even remotely mechanically minded to start with. I approached Dave at Bush Mechanics, and found a friendly and confident welcome. I spent three days at his house in Devon being slowly introduced to the mysterious world of mechanics and vehicle maintenance, Africa style! Over tea and homemade cake I learnt the core principles of diagnostic approach, methodical intervention, the importance of regular maintenance, and how to improvise repairs. I also gained a great friend and source of advice whilst on the road. These days provided me with a solid base on which to build what I now consider to be a reasonable mechanical competence. I would heartily recommend Dave to anyone considering any significant overland trip, or indeed anyone who owns an old car, even In the UK. It will be time well spent, and it may just save your bacon one day!
